Aston Martin is making 25 of these $3.5 million James Bond cars — high-tech gadgets and all

James Bond fans with deep pockets will soon be able to live vicariously through the iconic character.

Luxury British car manufacturer Aston Martin is recreating the famous DB5 driven by James Bond in the 007 movies, like 1964's "Goldfinger," for $3.5 million. There will be only 25 cars made.

The limited series Goldfinger DB5 will be based on James Bond's legendary car and will be an authentic reproduction of the Aston Martin DB5 seen on screen, according to Aston Martin. The car will include functioning high-tech gadgets, like a revolving license plate, as seen in "Goldfinger," driven by actor Sean Connery.

The car was also featured in "Thunderball" (1965) and "GoldenEye" (1995) with Connery; "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997) with Pierce Brosnan; and three appearances alongside Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale" (2006), "Skyfall" (2012) and "Spectre" (2015).

All the cars will come in Silver Birch paint, just like the original car from the movie.

"To own an Aston Martin has long been an aspiration for James Bond fans," says Andy Palmer, Aston Martin president and CEO, "but to own a Silver Birch DB5, complete with gadgets and built to the highest standards in the very same factory as the original James Bond cars? Well, that is surely the ultimate collectors' fantasy. The skilled craftspeople at Aston Martin Works and the expert special effects team from the James Bond films are about to make this fantasy real for 25 very lucky customers."

Aston Martin has not announced what other functioning gadgets will be available, though the car in Thunderball had a rear-facing water canon and a boot-stowed jetpack.

The cars will not be road legal (meaning you can't drive them on public roads), which is not uncommon in such circumstances (with the gadgets and all), according to Jalopnik.

The first deliveries of the car will take place in 2020. Aston Martin is working in association with EON Productions, the production company that produces the 007 films, to make the cars.

In July, the actual Aston Martin DB5 featured in "GoldenEye" sold for $2.6 million at an auction in the U.K. The car was purchased by Spyscape, an entertainment company that runs a spy museum in N.Y.C., according to Car and Driver.
