Parkers accuse ramp owner of price gouging - WKBW-TV

Downtown parkers are accusing one parking ramp company of price gouging.

Three people have reached out to 7 Eyewitness News saying Pay2Park will raise their prices at the Main Place Parking Ramp by nearly 60% starting in January.

This past summer Pay2Park bought the ramp on Pearl Street in Downtown Buffalo. Months went by without any price change. This past week downtown workers got the word that monthly prices will go up $60. Right now, the price is closer to $100.

The people who reached out to 7 Eyewitness news did not want to speak on camera. They're worried about retaliation. They’re worried if they lose their parking spot, they won’t be able to get another one. One parker says nearby lots have year-long waiting lists to get a monthly spot.

The price hike means an extra $720 to park per year.

“That's a lot of money and it's a lot of money coming around holiday time,” said one parker who wanted to remain anonymous.

In a letter to customers, Pay2Park wrote the increase is necessary for upgrades to the facility. They also wrote that the property value was recently reassessed and taxes are more expensive.

7 Eyewitness News reached out to Pay2Park. No one has not returned our call.
