Like its first Light up the Night event, Congregation Emanu El invited the whole community out for its second public Hanukkah celebration on Sunday, Dec. 29.

Festivities were slated to include candle lighting and singing, blessings in Hebrew, and general blessings of peace, according to Stuart Sweet, congregation president.

“It’s important to be able to hold events like this to show the community that we are really all the same, we share the community’s values,” Sweet said before the event. “We believe really strongly that one of the things that drives people apart is just a lack of understanding and we want to show that our celebrations are the city’s celebrations.”

The congregation welcomes everybody, Sweet said, adding “our values are something that are shared with churches and mosques and nonreligious people all over the city.”
