3-year-old sings heartbreaking song about 'Dinosaurs in Love' - New York Post

A prehistoric love affair between two doomed dinos may seem like unlikely fodder for a song written by a 3-year-old. But, then again, it’s not every day the internet is blessed with the uninhibited creativity of a budding musical prodigy.

According to British musician and father Tom Rosenthal, whenever his youngest daughter, Fenn, has a burst of inspiration, she comes to his studio to lay down a track.

And her most recent tune, “Dinosaurs in Love,” is about a pair of smitten ‘saurs who find themselves dining at a party just before the apocalyptic event that wiped-out their race.

The 60-second ballad features Fenn on vocals with Rosenthal accompanying on the piano. The talented toddler sings:

Dinosaurs eating people. Dinosaurs in love /
Dinosaurs having a party. They eat fruit and cucumber /
They fell in love. They say ‘thank you’/
A big bang came and they died /
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs, fell in love /
But they didn’t say goodbye /
But they didn’t say goodbye

Despite its somber subject matter, it’s become viral bop with nearly 1 million views since the song was posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

The Twitter account for the Natural History Museum of London wrote, “We’re not crying you’re crying.”

“I believe this is geo-historically completely accurate,” added British comedian David Baddiel.

Even the music catalogers at Spotify asked, “Has Fenn decided on an official release date yet?”

According to Rosenthal, his two daughters are known for dreaming-up ditties on the spot.

“She’s by the microphone, she’s got the headphones on, she starts singing and she does as much as she can,” Rosenthal told BuzzFeed News. “And then, eventually, after she’s done enough little bits of it, it kind of all fits together.”

He claims the paleontological theme was a surprise to him. “I genuinely couldn’t tell you why she wanted to do a song about dinosaurs,” he said. “She’s got no particular affiliation with dinosaurs at all. They’re not something she particularly cares about or not, this is just what was in her head at the time.”

The proud papa was impressed, both with Fenn’s scientific accuracy as well as her keen sense of a good hook.

“I know what a nice song sounds like and I was like, ‘that’s a really nice song.’ And it’s quite potent because you’ve got a little [almost] 4-year-old talking about things dying, and so many things are dying currently in the world,” he said. “I think it’s just kind of evocative of the moment.”

Of course, true artists aren’t without their whims. “Sometimes we have little breaks … She gets bored, she wanders off, she comes back in,” he said of Fenn’s fleeting creative spark. Nevertheless, the father of two insists on preserving the authenticity of his daughters’ work.

“I just let them go wild with whatever is happening,” he told CNN. “I think she’s got a really good sense of timing.” Rosenthal sees potential for a songwriting career for his daughter, and apparently not threatened by the fact that she has “probably already achieved more than me in one day than I have in my whole career.”

Perhaps that’s why he’s not letting the fame go to her head just yet.

“She can just about count to 20, so she doesn’t really get it if I say that half a million people have listened to the song,” Rosenthal told the cable news outlet.
